all of the voices. When sales of the cereal faltered, the company (inspired by the old adage “if at first you don’t succeed…”) coated the stars in fruit flavored jimmies, and ditched the elephant for a fireman, as shown in the second segment(the Twinkles cartoons would be replaced by Commander McBragg). Tutti-Frutti twinkles didn’t sell either, so the Big G (inspired by WC Fields) decided there was no sense being foolish and quit making the stuff. … Twinkles cereal General Mills 1960′s …

Actually, there were two star-shaped cereals that came out at the same time in 1960! Kellogg’s sponsored a show called “The Magic Land of Allakazam” with magician Mark Wilson as host, and their cereal, All Stars, featured a magician on the box…”The Wonderful Wizard of Oats.” When “Allakazam” disappeared in a puff of low ratings in 1964, Huckleberry Hound and Hillbilly Goat appeared on the box, now known as “Kellogg’s Stars.” Funny both Twinkles and All Stars ended at the same time in 1966…

Har har! “Nose, nose, anything goes. Turn my trunk into a water hose!” (It popped into my head today and that’s what made me look up Twinkles.) I loved the storybook box!

A long mystery solved! I always recall a yummy sweet cereal shaped like stars with a hole in the middle.. it was my favorite as a kid in the mid 60s… but could never remember the name. I wondered if I imagined it… but Twinkles is it! Thanks!

Twinkles was one of the early kiddie pre-sweetened cereals, and it lasted for 6 years, so I guess kids got tired of it, and moved on to other newer cereals. It might have seemed a bit bland compared to the newer stuff that game out later in the 60′s

“Nose, nose, anything goes!” First time I’ve seen the Twinkles cartoon since King Leonardo went off the air!

“Twinkles” was orginially shown on “KING LEONARDO AND HIS SHORT SUBJECTS”, and continued to be seen on the syndicated “KING & ODIE” series until the 1970′s, when General Mills decided to eliminate them from the “package”, because of FCC concerns over commericals and shows featuring animated characters who “shilled” for their sponsors at the same time. Even though “Twinkles” (and the cereal) weren’t being marketed, General Mills took no chances….
