The opening and closing Old Indy bookends from the Princeton 1916 Episode. Go George Hall! RIP!

Why they cut him is completely beyond me.

    I don’t mind… That’s not my favourite George Hall.

But I prefer Harrison Ford because he is good actor. (Guess what?) He is 65 years old!

IN no way does that guy seem ANYTHING like Indy. Not physically, not his manner, not his face, not even that accent. I’m sure that man is a great actor, but he’s as much Indy as Carrie Fisher would make a great Bo Derek. What were they thinking when they cast him!!!??? No wonder they cut it out of the DVDs!

Thank you so much for posting these…

I am one of the many people who miss Old Indy and don’t understand why he wasn’t included on the DVD’s. :/ Even if Lucasfilm wanted to take him out of the re-edited movies, they could’ve at least included these as one of the special features…

Man, I’m glad these are gone. In no way does that guy give me a feeling of Indiana Jones.

Why, Mr. Lucas, did you cut the Old IJ bookends out and replace them with those stupid “inter-episodes?” I just finished watching the DVD for Espionage Escapades, and nearly threw it out the window. Old IJ was cut out and replaced with 30 minutes of stupidity about Indy trying to get a phone installed in the endless maze of Austrian bureaucracy, aided only by a bumbling French agent named Clouseau. Lucas is a talented writer, but in the future, he should avoid this kind of script. Not his thing.

I too am disappointed the bookends are not on the DVDs. Has anybody heard/read an official reason from Lucas? I have a special fondness for them, because they were filmed in my home state of NC (in Wilmington), and in the summer of ’92 my wife and I accidentally stumbled upon the filming of this episode near downtown Wilmington. It’s not every day you just happen upon one of your favorite filmmakers at work!

“WANNA GO FOR A SPIN IN IT?” Gee do you think?
I remember that one vaguely. That works better than the cuts they’ve got now.
Sorry to hear of Ira Levin’s death, though I was mostly aware of him from the films of his books, especially Polanski’s chilling Rosemary’s Baby and the original Stepford Wives films. (When I was younger I’d assumed Ira was a woman’s name! )
I just bought the DVDs and I’m very frustrated with the absence of the old Indy scenes… What were they thinking?
Some episodes don’t even make sense without these intro or closing scenes.

Thanks for posting this! I can’t understand why they cut the Old Indy scenes either – it was pretty cool seeing IJ as an old man looking back on his life. Stoopid George Lucas and his retcons grrrrr …. :(
